The original water pump in the Phoenix had one fundamental problem — it was disturbingly noisy. It bothered me most in the evening, when the van is quiet and every cycle of the pump sounds like an alarm bell. On top of that there was pressure fluctuation depending on how many outlets were open at the same time.

I decided to solve it. I had no idea I'd end up buying a pump twice.

First Choice — Carawater Intelligent SmartPump

I settled on the Carawater Intelligent SmartPump ISP-12-4K-15 — a four-chamber pump with a flow rate of up to 15 l/min, control via a Bluetooth app, and three switchable pressure modes of 1.4 / 1.8 / 2.2 bar. On paper, exactly what I was looking for.

After installation it was clear that this was a technically interesting pump. The app worked, the pressure modes worked, the flow rate matched the specification.

But the Noise Stayed

Functionally, everything was fine. But in exactly the one respect for which I was replacing the pump, nothing improved — in terms of noise, the Carawater was no different from the original. Its operation could be heard throughout the entire living space, just as disturbingly as before.

I had solved everything except the one thing I actually wanted to solve.

Second Attempt — Lilie IQflow 12.3

In the end I chose the Lilie IQflow 12.3 — another four-chamber intelligent pressure pump, this time with smooth power regulation based on the current water draw, instead of switching between fixed modes.

The difference was noticeable immediately. The pump is significantly quieter, holds stable pressure even with several outlets open at once, and during normal operation it's barely audible.

Was It Worth It?

Yes.

Tonight I'll turn on the water and won't hear anything that disturbs the peace in the van. That's exactly what it was about from the start.

The biggest lesson from this modification, though, wasn't technical. It was that specifications on paper — flow rate, pressure, Bluetooth app — say nothing about how loud the pump will actually be. That can only be verified by listening for yourself, in your own van.
